Judge Beth W. Root

Fairborn Municipal Court

Beth W. Root became judge of the Fairborn/Beavercreek Municipal Court in January 2008.  Prior to this, she had been a magistrate of the Fairborn/Beavercreek Municipal Court since January 1996. Judge Root hears traffic and criminal cases, including OVI’s and thefts. She also hears motions to suppress evidence, administrative license suspension appeals, contempt hearings, and probation violation hearings. As magistrate, she presided over approximately 20,000 cases.

After graduating from Fairborn High School as valedictorian, Judge Root received a B.A. from Miami University and a J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law, where she received the American Jurisprudence Award for Legal Professionalism.

Prior to becoming a magistrate and then judge, she was in private practice with Hammond & Stier Law Office.
 
Judge Root is currently a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Greene County Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Magistrates. She is a member of the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial College Planning Committee for Continuing Education for Municipal Magistrates and has been a presenter for the Judicial College.

Judge Root coordinated various agencies including the area municipal prosecutors, the public defender’s office, the local mental health agency, the Municipal Court Probation Department, and the local bar association to implement a mental health docket at the Fairborn Municipal Court.

Judge Root is an active Girl Scout leader, a past Board member and Vice President for the Greene County Family Violence Prevention Center, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, a Kids Voting Coordinator as well as a member of the Beavercreek Rotary Club and the Fairborn and Beavercreek Chambers of Commerce.
