Mission
To improve the quality of life for the citizens of Fairborn through the availability of recreational and cultural opportunities as well as the proactively operate and maintain of City-owned buildings, grounds, and cemeteries.
Specific Functions
- Parks & Recreation: Determine the appropriate development and use of the 18 City parks and nature areas; coordinate and present concerts and special recreation events in the Summer Park Series; coordinate and assist with all sports league usage; coordinate park reservations and approval for any special events; serve as staff liaison to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board; communicate and cooperate with the County and other communities' recreation departments; provide research and planning for continued development of recreational and cultural opportunities.
- Plant Maintenance: Responsible for appropriate physical upkeep and improvements of all City-owned property including the Government Center, Library, four Fire Stations, and other auxiliary buildings; landscaping, irrigation, mowing, and trimming of all grounds; maintenance and preparation of all sports fields, courts, playgrounds, exercise areas, shelters, and other service facilities; assist and provide maintenance support for the annual Sweet Corn Festival.
- Cemetery Operations: Own and maintain Fairfield Cemetery; operate Fairfield Cemetery to provide for the purchase of cemetery plots, the opening, closing, and maintenance of gravesites, pouring forms for monuments, and to provide indigent burials; maintain Cost, Highview, and Hall cemeteries.
