Mission To provide the highest quality technical and communication services through effective utilization of existing and emerging technologies, and fiscal responsibility that will enhance staff productivity to serve the citizens of Fairborn. |
Specific Functions
There are three basic areas of the division – CATV (Cable) – Electronic Maintenance (including telephony) – and IT functions.
Cable:
- Manage Fairborn's Government Access Channel 5.
- Monitor cable television service to the community and the cable company's adherence to the City's Cable Franchise and other legal statutes.
- Provide live broadcasts and recorded replays of City Council, Planning Board Meetings and Five-Year Capital Improvement Committee Meetings.
- Write, produce, direct, videotape (film), and edit special television programs.
- Assist City Departments, Citizen Boards and Committees with special media needs.
Electonic Maintenance:
- Install, modify, maintain, and repair a variety of mobile and fixed two-way radio-telephone equipment and a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.
- Provide 24/7 On-call support service for the 911 emergency response system.
- Check power output, frequency, and deviation of transmitters and mobile stations, isolates defects and replace defective parts.
- Plan, install, modify, upgrade, maintain, and repair a variety of electronic traffic control devices.
- Plan, install, modify, upgrade, maintain, and repair telephone and data cabling plant, internal and external to the City.
- Plan, review, and implement the telecommunications requirements for the City.
Information Technology:
- Plan, develop, and maintain City's World Wide Web Site.
- Define and implement IT policies, procedures, best practices and standards.
- Develop long range IT plans to serve all City Departments in a coordinated effort.
- Plan, coordinate, direct, design, and maintain City-Wide networks.
- Establish cost effective standards for hardware and software purchases.
- Plan, install, configure, modify, upgrade, maintain, and repair computer hardware and software, including servers and PC’s.
- Administer Internet connectivity including E-mail and wireless technologies.
