On October 15, 2005, Karen Hawkins assumed the responsibilities of Utilities Superintendent. In this capacity, she oversees the operations of the Division of Water and Sewer.
Karen has over 20 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry. Prior to her promotion, she served as the City’s Water Project Coordinator overseeing a variety of projects and programs including backflow prevention, a meter change-out program, wellhead protection, water tower painting, youth education, employee training and water quality sampling.
Karen holds a State of Ohio Class III Water Supply, Class II Wastewater Collection and Backflow Tester Certifications. She attended Wright State University where she focused on communications and science.
Karen is an active member of the Ohio American Water Works Association (OAWWA) and serves as the association’s Southwest District Trustee. She has served as both a trustee and President of the Operator Training Committee of Ohio. In addition, she serves as a backflow prevention instructor and has provided training across the state including to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
In 2008, Karen was awarded OAWWA's Richard F. Melick Award for training.
