City Council

According to Fairborn’s original charter adopted by a vote of the citizens in 1949, and the amended charter adopted by a vote of the citizens in 1971, the City of Fairborn uses the Council-Manager form of government. This form of government combines a citizen policy making council with a professional administrator to assure efficient and responsible conduct of community affairs.

City Council is comprised of the Mayor and six Council members, elected at-large. The Mayor serves a two year term while Council members serve four year terms.

Mission Statement

To serve as the City’s legislative body in order to provide and enhance City services, assure orderly growth, and promote the general welfare for the good of the entire community.

Specific Functions

Meet in official session on the first and third Monday of each month.

Council Meetings

The Fairborn City Council meets on the first and third Mondays of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council room at the Fairborn Government Center, 44 West Hebble Avenue. Citizens are encouraged to attend the public meetings. Click here to watch a LIVE meeting or replay a past meeting.

Public Participation at Meetings:

Participation at Council meetings occurs in two ways, through public hearing and citizen comments. The presiding officer (mayor) of the City Council will recognize individuals requesting to speak at City Council Meetings. Topics not scheduled for public hearing may be discussed under Citizens' Comments. Individuals wishing to speak are asked to abide by the following procedure:

1. Wait to speak until recognized by the presiding officer.
2. Approach the podium and state your name and address for the official record.
3. Address remarks to the presiding officer.
4. Respond to questions from Council Members.
5. During a public hearing, limit comments to subject under discussion.
6. During Citizens' Comments, limit comments to three (3) minutes.
7. Avoid complaints and/or remarks directed against individual employees or Council Members. (These type of complaints and/or remarks will be ruled out of order by the presiding officer and should be handled instead through the proper procedures for filing complaints.)

Public statements will be accepted during public hearings and the Citizens' Comments portion of the meeting. At the times noted above, please be respectful and courteous. If necessary, agree to disagree. Please avoid personal attacks and offensive language.
