On August 15, 2005, Terry Bennington was promoted to the rank of Captain responsible for the Fairborn Police Department’s Patrol Section.

Terry began his law enforcement career with the Fairborn Police Department in September of 1988. In 1995, he transferred from Patrol to the Detective Bureau. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May 1998. As a Sergeant, he supervised Patrol, Internal Affairs, Research and Development, the Records Section and served as Team Leader for the Regional Emergency Response Team (RERT).

Over the years, Terry expanded his law enforcement knowledge by serving as a Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician, Hostage Negotiator, and in 2007 Terry completed a 10-week course at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. In addition, he was an original tactical member of the Regional Emergency Response Team.

Terry graduated from Vandalia-Butler High School in 1982. After graduation he attended East Tennessee State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He received his law enforcement basic training at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. In 2000, he received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University. He is also a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.

Terry and his wife, Kim, have four children.
