Recreation in Fairborn

The Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division feels there is something for everyone when it comes to recreational fun. Many of the activities are annual events, and new activities have been added.


Valentine Heart Cookie Decorating - Tuesday, February 9, 2016

Join us for an afternoon of cookie fun! Learn how to decorate your own Valentine cookies. Each participant will have fun creating their own cookie designs and will get to enjoy and take home what’s left!  Click here for a printable registration form.


Valentine Cupcake and Cookie Decorating - Thursday, February 11, 2016

Join us for an afternoon of cupcake and cookie fun! Learn how to fill, frost, and decorate cupcakes and cookies. Each participant will have fun creating their own cupcake and cookie designs and will get to enjoy and take home what’s left!  Click here for a printable registration form.


Valentine Wreath - Thursday, February 11, 2016

Students will create a tissue paper wreath, using a paper plate, a ribbon for hanging, and sequins. All supplies are included in the fee. This program will be instructed by Terri Perkins, owner of Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery.  Click here for a printable registration form.


Winter Card Making - Thursday, February 11, 2016

Join us for a great winter card making class. We'll make two cards: one for Valentine's Day, and one for winter. This program will be instructed by Jean Strand, owner of Christy's Happy Scrapper.  Click here for a printable registration form.


Hike and Explore! Everlasting Evergreens - Saturday, February 20, 2016

Learn about the fantastic features of the “everlasting” evergreens and what makes them so unwilling to lose their needles. A story and craft will go along with this program after hiking around Community Park and finding these amazing trees. The Annual Fishing Derby

The Annual Fishing Derby takes place on the second Saturday in May at Community Park Pond. Prizes are awarded for catching the most fish, the longest fish, and the heaviest fish. Prior to the derby there is a Passport to Fishing class for adolescents ages 4 – 17, which teaches casting, knot tying, and fish identification, it is offered and limited to the first 50 registrants.  A fishing license is not required, but you will need to bring your pole, bait and basket.  

 
The Fairborn Farmer’s Market (April – October)

Each Wednesday from April until the end of October, the Fairborn Farmers’ Market opens mid-morning to early afternoon at the corner of Main Street and Grand Avenue in the Fifth-Third Commons. Patrons can purchase fresh floral arrangements, baked goods, farm-grown produce, herbs, honey, preserves and other related items. All vendors must follow the Cottage Food Rules and have a signed Farmers’ Market Agreement on file with the City.

 
Youth Adventure & Arts Summer Programs (June – July)

Youth ages 6-12 can celebrate summer with the Parks and Recreation Division! Each camp will have a different theme with activities that will provide fun experiences along with opportunities for youth to learn new things and make new friends.  For the full day camps, campers will need to bring a packed lunch.  All camps will take place at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd.

 
Youth Tennis Lessons (June - July)

Tiny Tennis (Ages 5-7): Students will enjoy learning the forehand, backhand, volleys, and serve. Coordination games, tennis terms, and water breaks are all a part of this program. Development Camp (Ages 8-13): Designed for tennis improvements or learning the game. Each day will involve students with tennis-related drills, game play, and stroke specific activities. Participants will be grouped by ability and instructed accordingly.


Youth Summer Sports Programs and Camps (June - July)

We are teaming up with Jump Start Sports to provide youth sport opportunities in the summer!  Through these programs children will learn basic techniques and fundamentals taught by Jump Start Sport coaches.

 
Softball Leagues (Summer and Fall Leagues)

Fairborn runs a summer softball league with registration beginning in January, and a fall softball league with registration beginning in July. Most leagues are limited to six teams.  For returning 2015 teams, summer registration opens January 4, 2016 - January 29, 2016. New teams may register on a first come, first serve basis for all remaining spaces beginning February 1, 2016. The final registration deadline for summer leagues is Friday, April 22, 2016 at 4 p.m.! There is a manager's meeting on Thursday, April 28, 2016 and the season will run May 2, 2016 through July 21, 2016 (10 week season).

Tennis League (June – August)

Fairborn's Tennis Leagues provide singles and doubles matches for the tennis enthusiasts.  Registration is open to anyone, high school age or older. The Singles Division plays on Monday evenings and the Doubles Division plays on Wednesday evenings. 

 
Fairborn Tennis Tournament (August)

The Fairborn Tennis Tournament takes place at Community Park Tennis Courts in August. Divisions include Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Over 40 Singles, Boys High School, Girls High School, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

 
Fairborn’s Annual 5K (July)

Fairborn’s Annual 5K run takes place on the third Saturday in July at 8:00 a.m. at Rona Hills Park, 600 Roehner Drive. Pre-registration takes place prior to July 1 and many door prizes are made available for those pre-registering (participants must be present to win door prizes). Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in various age group awards for male and female. Refreshments are provided at the end of the race.
