The Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division feels there is something for everyone when it comes to recreational fun. Many of the activities are annual events, and new activities have been added.

Take a Hike, Win a Prize! - Wednesday, October 5

Enjoy a series of leisurely hikes through Fairborn's beautiful parks led by an Ohio Certified Naturalist. Each hike you participate in allows your name to be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the day's hike! The first hike will take place at Valle View Reserve, 1097 Empire Ct.  Click here for all hike dates and locations.

Paper Pumpkin on Painted Canvas - Thursday, October 6

Students will paint an 8 x 10 canvas blue and use patterned paper as well as brown buttons to create a pumpkin and grassy scene. All supplies are included in the fee.  Click here for a printable registration form.

Read, Explore, Create - Seeds, Seeds, Seeds! - Thursday, October 13

Join us at Community Park for a hands-on adventure inspired by nature and books! We'll read a great story, go for a discovery hike, and create a fun nature-based craft. Dress for outdoor weather.  Click here for printable program flyer.

Fooling Mother Nature: Forcing Flower Bulbs for Indoor Bloom - Thursday, October 13

Halloween Booquet - Monday, October 24

Family Fun Pumpkin Carving - Tuesday, October 25

The Annual Fishing Derby - May

The Annual Fishing Derby takes place on the second Saturday in May at Community Park Pond. Prizes are awarded for catching the most fish, the longest fish, and the smallest fish. Prior to the derby there is a Passport to Fishing class for adolescents ages 4 – 17, which teaches casting, knot tying, and fish identification, it is offered and limited to the first 50 registrants.  A fishing license is not required, but you will need to bring your pole, bait and basket.  

The Fairborn Farmer’s Market (April – October)

Each Wednesday from April until the end of October, the Fairborn Farmers’ Market opens mid-morning to early afternoon at the corner of Main Street and Grand Avenue in the Fifth-Third Commons. Patrons can purchase fresh floral arrangements, baked goods, farm-grown produce, herbs, honey, preserves and other related items. All vendors must follow the Cottage Food Rules and have a signed Farmers’ Market Agreement on file with the City.

Youth Adventure & Arts Summer Programs (June – July)

Youth ages 6-12 can celebrate summer with the Parks and Recreation Division! Each camp will have a different theme with activities that will provide fun experiences along with opportunities for youth to learn new things and make new friends! For the full day camps, campers will need to bring a packed lunch.  All camps will take place at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd.

Youth Tennis Lessons (June - July)

Tiny Tennis (Ages 5-7): Students will enjoy learning the forehand, backhand, volleys, and serve. Coordination games and tennis terms are all a part of this program. Development Camp (Ages 8-13): Designed for tennis improvements or learning the game. Each day will involve students with tennis-related drills, game play, and stroke specific activities. Participants will be grouped by ability and instructed accordingly. High School Development Camp (Ages 14 & up) - New for 2016: Designed for beginner players looking to learn the game or improve their skills. Lessons include tennis-related drills, game play, and stroke specific activities. Participants will be grouped by ability and instructed accordingly.

Youth Fall Sports Programs

We are teaming up with Jump Start Sports to provide youth sport opportunities this fall!  Through these programs children will learn basic techniques and fundamentals taught by Jump Start Sport coaches. The fall programs are scheduled as follows: 

Fairborn Hummingbirds Soccer

  • Saturdays, September 17 - October 22 
  • 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. for 3 - 4 year olds; 11:00 a.m. - noon for 5 - 6 year olds 
  • Fee: $55 per participant 
  • Location: Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd. *grass area behind tennis courts

    Softball Leagues (Summer and Fall Leagues)

    Fairborn runs a summer softball league with registration beginning in January, and a fall softball league with registration beginning in July. Most leagues are limited to six teams.  The fall leagues are currently playing and will run through October.  

    Tennis League (June – August)

    Fairborn's Tennis Leagues provide singles and doubles matches for the tennis enthusiasts.  Registration is open to anyone, high school age or older. The Singles Division plays on Monday evenings and the Doubles Division plays on Wednesday evenings. 

    Fairborn’s Annual 5K (July)

    Fairborn’s Annual 5K run takes place on the third Saturday in July at 8:00 a.m. at Rona Hills Park, 600 Roehner Drive. Pre-registration takes place prior to July 1 and many door prizes are made available for those pre-registering (participants must be present to win door prizes). Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in various age group awards for male and female. Refreshments are provided at the end of the race.
