Explanation of Tests
Test # 1 – Obstacle Course Run
The applicant begins in the driver’s seat of a marked patrol car with the door shut. On the sound of the whistle, the applicant will undo the safety belt and exit the patrol car, which is pulled into a parking space. The applicant will then exit the patrol car, time starts when feet touch the pavement, run up the flight of stairs, stepping on each step, enter the building, ascending the steps to the second floor, stepping on each step, turn left approaching barricades. Climb over first barricade, continue to second barricade, and go underneath it, continue to third barricade and go over it. Continue running past the taped line, and then time will be stopped. In the event a candidate trips or slips and falls to floor, the candidate will be allowed to retake test.
This event must be completed in a maximum time of 21.63 seconds.

The applicant will begin the run on the sound of the whistle, and will run a total distance of 116 feet. The applicant will run 58 feet in one direction, ending at the rear of the vehicle to be pushed. The applicant will push an unmarked patrol car, a distance of 58 feet, unassisted. The applicant will push the vehicle by placing their hands against the rear of the vehicle, using leg strength to move the vehicle. Applicants must retain contact with the vehicle while pushing. The vehicle will be in neutral. The raters will demonstrate the technique used for pushing the vehicle. Time will end when rear of vehicle crosses the start/finish line.
This event must be completed in a maximum time of 17 seconds.

The applicant will pull the dummy (approximately 185 lbs.), using a technique of their own choosing, a distance of 75 feet, back down the hallway to the starting position. A recommended technique will be demonstrated by the raters.
This event must be completed in a maximum time of 26.02 seconds.

If the track is unavailable, the applicant will then run around the course marked by traffic cones, staying on the outside of the cones, completing the required number of laps to equal a distance of approximately 1,000 feet. The event will end when the applicant completes the 1,000 feet run.
