Directions to Apply for LATERAL Police Officer and LATERAL Public Safety Dispatcher positions.
Please read ALL the information in the link contained in this paragraph BEFORE clicking on the green “Employment Opportunities” button on this page.  

You must READ AND FOLLOW ALL of the steps listed on this page.  ALL steps MUST be completed in the order designated.

  1. Click on the link in the paragraph at the middle of this page addressed to Police Officer LATERAL applicants OR the 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatcher LATERAL applicants (depending on which you’re applying for) BEFORE clicking on the green employment opportunities button at the bottom of this screen.
  2. COMPLETE AND SAVE TO YOUR COMPUTER the Police Officer EEO Statistical Supplement AND the Authorization for Release of Information Agreement OR 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatcher EEO Statistical Supplement AND the Authorization for Release of Information Agreement.
  1. In addition, the items listed below MUST be provided with the submitted application (you can add them online or e-mail them to hr@ci.fairborn.oh.us).  If you choose to e-mail them, be sure to designate that your e-mail documents are to be added to your completed online application.
  1. If applying for the LATERAL Police Officer position, the following documents MUST be provided with the submitted application:
    1. Copy of OPOTA Peace Officer Certification
    2. Copy of High School Diploma or GED
    3. Copy of Birth Certificate
    4. Copy of Driver’s License
    5. Copy of Military DD-214, if applicable
    6. One page handwritten letter by you titled “What becoming a Fairborn Police Officer means to me”
  1. If applying for the LATERAL 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatcher position, the following documents MUST be provided with the submitted application:
    1. Copy of High School Diploma or GED
    2. Copy of Birth Certificate
    3. Copy of Driver’s License
    4. Copy of Military DD-214, if applicable

After these steps have been completed, please click on the green employment opportunities link below, then click on the position you’re applying for – LATERAL Police Officer or LATERAL 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatcher and follow the instructions from there.  You may also upload a resume and cover letter while completing the online application.

Specific Functions

  • Administer and coordinate discipline and grievance procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide training for City employees, especially supervisors.
  • Coordinate employee benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, Workers' Compensation, sick leave, vacation, holidays, and other pertinent fringe benefits.
  • Develop, review, and revise Personnel Rules and Regulations as needed.
  • Process all personnel actions such as promotions, merit increases, and performance appraisals.
  • Provide support services for union negotiations.
  • Publish bimonthly employee newsletter and send out other necessary employee communications.
  • Recruitment and testing for all position vacancies.
